A Practical Next.js Performance Audit Checklist

A high-performing web application is not an accident—it is the result of continuous benchmarking and disciplined engineering choices. Here is our exact pre-launch checklist for Next.js applications.

1. Server Component Boundary Optimization

Ensure client directives ('use client') are moved as far down the component tree as possible.

Isolate interactive widgets (e.g. drop-downs, counters) into micro-components to prevent pushing unnecessary JavaScript downstream to the browser.

2. Font & Image Loading Optimization

Utilize next/font to eliminate external render-blocking font requests and eliminate layout shifts (CLS).

Ensure all image assets utilize responsive sizes props and WebP/AVIF compression formats.

Audit Tip: Run @next/bundle-analyzer on every production build to detect duplicated dependencies and rogue client-side libraries.
